Eagles Nest Lookout in Calabogie: Trailheads and Parking

Plan an Eagles Nest Lookout trip from Ottawa with official Calabogie trail maps, route differences and designated parking information.

Eagles Nest Lookout in Calabogie: Trailheads and Parking

Eagles Nest Lookout in Calabogie is a cliff-top destination in the Manitou Mountain trail network. For an Ottawa day trip, decide on your starting point first: the Calabogie Road access, the route from Calabogie Peaks and the longer Manitou trail are different outings. Ontario's Highlands identifies the lookout in Calabogie, and Calabogie Peaks publishes maps of the connecting trails.

Official maps and parking information checked October 20, 2026. This guide describes published routes; it does not claim a measured hike or a visit by our team.

Choose a Starting Point

Starting pointHow it changes the outing
Calabogie Road / Highway 508Choose access to the lookout from the road-side trail network, using the township's designated parking lot.
Calabogie Peaks ResortThe resort's current map shows connecting trails to Eagles Nest; confirm your chosen route with the resort before setting out.
Manitou Mountain corridorThe township lists a 9 km trail, including Eagles Nest, Manitou Mountain and Red Arrow Rock viewpoints. This is a different route choice from a lookout-only return walk.

The municipal trail map and the map currently linked by Calabogie Peaks show how Little Pine Path, the old logging road and the longer trail corridor connect. Use these current maps to choose a route; they do not provide a total distance for every possible return walk.

Parking for the Calabogie Road Approach

Use the designated Eagles Nest parking lot on Calabogie Road, rather than a roadside pull-off. The Township of Greater Madawaska's current visitor page describes the constructed lot and directs visitors to the HONK payment system using the signs at the lot. It also states that parking along Highway 508 is prohibited.

The official maps label Little Pine Path access at 6573 Calabogie Road and another access at 6515 Calabogie Road, both with parking and trailhead symbols. The township's current visitor page does not give a street number for its constructed lot, so these map labels should not be treated as confirmation of that lot's address. Follow the current designated-lot signs when you arrive.

The township's published fee schedule, effective December 19, 2025, lists a general trail parking fee of $5 per day. Its Eagles Nest visitor entry describes HONK contributions without quoting a lot-specific rate, so confirm the current arrangement on the signs for your selected lot before paying.

Read the Map Before Choosing Your Route

For the lookout approach, identify Eagles Nest Lookout and Little Pine Path on the map rather than selecting a longer route simply because its name includes Eagles Nest. The maps place the lookout beside the cliff, west of Turtle Pond; other branches continue toward the Manitou Mountain and Red Arrow Rock lookouts.

The current official maps do not label a total distance for the short lookout return walk. This guide therefore does not attach a single distance or completion time to every Calabogie Road or resort route. The township's 9 km Manitou trail description applies to the longer corridor, not every visit to Eagles Nest.

The lookout trail is at the top of the cliff. Climb Calabogie describes climbing access along both the top and base of the cliff. Follow the lookout route and current signs rather than treating climbing access as a hiking shortcut.

Make It an Ottawa Day Trip

Choose the hike as the main activity and plan your return from the same trailhead, unless you have arranged a longer route. Check the township's visitor information and the resort's current map page for updates before leaving; this article does not promise daily opening hours, winter maintenance or an accessible surface.
