About the Algonquin Commons Theatre
The Algonquin Commons Theatre (ACT) — sometimes called simply the Algonquin Theatre in Ottawa — is a 700-seat auditorium inside the Robert C. Gillett Student Commons (Building E) at Algonquin College's Ottawa campus. When the floor-level seats are removed for standing-room shows, capacity scales up to about 835. Operated by the Algonquin Students' Association (SA), the Commons Theatre has grown into one of the city's main west-end mid-size venues — Ticketmaster and Live Nation regularly route touring artists through the room.
Programming spans rock, indie, electronic, and hip-hop concerts; stand-up comedy and drag tours; dance recitals; tribute shows; and student showcases. Notable recent and upcoming bookings include Sandra Shamas, Kam Patterson, Heydoo, Alyssa Edwards' Thanks For Everything Tour, and Jim Henson's Labyrinth: In Concert.
