The incomparable British playwright Alistair McDowall, skilfully translated here by none other than Fanny Britt, manages to condense an entire human lifetime into just over an hour of breathtaking theatre. Alone on stage, Évelyne Rompré is utterly stunning in what is—no pun intended—the role of her life!
A woman appears in a beam of light, like a bright sun that fades over time—time brilliantly staged by director Louis-Karl Tremblay. What lies between our babblings at birth and our final agonized words? Noises, heat, cold, joy, pain, grief, sex, work (always work), but also poetry and coloured pencils. From this impulsive flow of words and feelings, sharp reflections on love, parenthood, and motherhood emerge. For this is about a life, certainly, but a woman’s life.
The show is an exceptional encounter between an actor at the height of her art and a beautifully crafted script that accurately captures how every life is a story—perfectly ordinary, yet absolutely magnificent.
