Music meets movement in this captivating collaboration between Patrick Watson and Yoann Bourgeois. Rooted in a shared belief in the power of imagination and wild ideas, the work offers a hopeful and deeply moving reflection on our world.
French choreographer and acrobat Yoann Bourgeois and Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, alongside five contemporary dancer-acrobats, come together in a mesmerising, gravity-defying production that blends dance, live music, theatre, and contemporary circus. A distinctive set featuring a trampoline, turntable, treadmill, and aquarium creates a constantly shifting landscape.
Patrick Watson's hauntingly beautiful indie-pop songs, performed live on stage, provide the soundscape for Bourgeois' choreography. Together, they create a suspended moment in time that explores human vulnerability, isolation, and resilience in a fractured world.
"Patrick Watson and I began our discussions in the midst of the pandemic. Starting from that peculiar moment, we examined together our feelings about our damaged world, each sharing concerns about the unbearable situation.
Our frank examinations of today’s ever-growing list of crises—ecological disruption, social exclusion, limitless exploitation of limited natural resources, widening inequalities and the relentless and dehumanising search for profit—are what formed the basis of our deliberations.
We’ve assumed our responsibilities as artists. The demand for a better world is also played out symbolically, through the advent of new imaginations in the wars of our representations.
He and I joined together due to our shared belief in the power of the most radical poetry, in chanting spells, in truly magical conjurations and in the wildest possible ideas."
Recommended for those 12 years old and older.
Patrick Watson has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket sold will go to local organisations working to fight hunger and food insecurity in their communities.
