sheila&lucile: When Winter Comes, with special guest Sharlene Wallace

sheila&lucile return to the Fourth Stage for their annual Winter show, featuring the duo’s adaptations of familiar and unusual music for the season. This year’s show comes with a fabulous twist; they will be joined by special guest, harpist Sharlene Wallace.

sheila&lucile perform on a variety of flutes and harps, creating a unique sound inspired by the range of colours and textures heard in and between their instruments. Well acquainted with audiences in and around Ottawa, the duo’s profile runs deep, with combined musical journeys that have seen them performing in small and large ensembles across Canada and in Europe, at festivals in the US, ceilis in Ireland, and premiering a Canadian work in New York city. Deeply rooted in celtic traditions while strongly influenced by a background in classical music, the duo’s distinctive voice can also be heard on various streaming platforms, and on their albums including a new 2026 release; a collection of original arrangements of traditional and contemporary music from Canada, Scotland and Ireland, whose title track is a piece written for the duo — Wavelength.

Sharlene Wallace is a Canadian lever and pedal harp player, composer, educator and visual explorer, all through which she expresses her relationship to space, the natural world and intuition. Winner of two international lever harp competitions, Sharlene has given concerts and workshops across Canada, the United States, and in Europe. She is an influential figure in the lever harp world for her performances, recordings, compositions, teaching and for her use of this instrument in contemporary and original music. Sharlene’s compositions and arrangements are featured throughout her ten independent albums. In 2024 Sharlene released two albums - Lilac Embers, an album of Sharcompositions for acoustic and electric lever harps with electronics by Jean Martin, and Trees.Listen, a co-composition recording performance-environmental project with Frank Horvat for lever harp and fixed electronics. Trees.Listen performances include Sharlene’s photos in video projections synched with the music. Sharlene’s trio Iona Passage with pianist Eric Robertson and fiddle player Anne Lindsay will release a new album in 2026.
