k.d. lang: has always been: An Evening Celebrating a Musical Legacy

On October 2, a stellar array of acclaimed artists will gather on the Southam Hall stage to honour Canadian icon k.d. lang. Dedicated to the voice, the vision, and the enduring impact of one of Canada’s most distinctive and influential artists, k.d. lang, has always been the definitive celebration of a monumental talent.

With landmark albums like Ingénue and Hymns of the 49th Parallel, notable collaborations with icons such as Tony Bennett and Roy Orbison, and a catalogue that includes country, pop, and contemporary standards, k.d. lang has earned universal acclaim. Her legendary career is marked by multiple Grammy, JUNO, and GLAAD Awards, induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, recognition as an Officer of the Order of Canada, the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, and the Alberta Order of Excellence Award. Through her vocal mastery and emotional depth, she continues to inspire generations of artists and listeners alike.

k.d. lang: has always been will include performances and tributes by her peers, friends, and musicians she’s inspired, including Jann Arden, Michael Bublé, Allison Russell and several other incredible artists who will join k.d. at this special event.

An accompanying exhibit featuring archival materials and memorabilia will offer audiences an additional opportunity to explore the cultural impact of k.d. lang.

The evening will begin with a red carpet arrival featuring participating artists, leading into an unforgettable celebration of a truly original Canadian legend. Plus, stay for the post-show party with a DJ and cash bar in the NAC lobby!
