Capital Music Week (CxMW)

Capital Music Week (CxMW)

Capital Music Week (CxMW) is Ottawa’s citywide music week, brought back for a second year by the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition. From October 2 to 10, concerts, showcases, industry sessions, and public events run in theatres, clubs, cafés, and other rooms around the city. The official theme is Our Soul Is Our Sound.

The week is built around a few named programmes plus a daily live-music schedule. Individual shows have their own times, ages, and ticket rules. Some are free with RSVP. Others need a separate ticket even if you have a festival pass. The current grid is on the CxMW schedule.

Capital Music Awards — Friday, October 9

The Capital Music Awards are the centrepiece of the week, at Southam Hall in the National Arts Centre. The red carpet is at 6:00 pm and the show is at 8:00 pm. The ceremony is all ages and general admission. Tickets are sold separately from the festival passes. Details and links are on the awards page and at ottawamic.com/cma.

Independent Music Business Summit — Saturday, October 3

A full day of panels, workshops, and networking at Bayview Yards, 7 Bayview Station Road. The All-Access Pro Pass includes this ticket. A summit-only ticket is also sold on CxMW.ca. Check the schedule for the day’s hours before you go.

Canada After Dark — October 7 and 8

A two-day nightlife summit at the NAC Fourth Stage, presented with the City of Ottawa’s Nightlife Office. Sessions run 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Day 1, Day 2, and two-day tickets are listed on OMIC’s Canada After Dark page.

Portraits of a Music City — October 2 to 10

A photography exhibit of local musicians and the people around them, up in eight cafés across Ottawa. It is part of Ottawa’s 200th anniversary programming. Café names and hours are on the CxMW site.
