Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships

The best wheelchair basketball teams on the planet are coming to Ottawa. From September 9 to 19, 2026, 28 national teams (16 men's and 12 women's) and 336 athletes compete for world titles across two Ottawa venues, with the winners crowned on the final Saturday.

It is the first time Canada has hosted the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, and the tournament is supported by the Government of Canada.

Venues

Games are split between two sites in the same part of the city:

• The Arena at TD Place — 1015 Bank Street, in Lansdowne. Hosts the opening ceremony and marquee games
• Carleton University, Raven's Nest — 9376 University Drive, about 10 minutes south along the Rideau Canal

Tournament Schedule

Teams arrive September 5, with practice and classification running September 6–8 before competition opens.

Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster. Options include single-session tickets for each venue and an All Access Pass covering multiple sessions across the championship. Prices are not published on the organizer's site, so check the ticket page for current pricing by session.

Why Go

Wheelchair basketball is fast, physical, and easy to follow even if you have never watched a game. Play runs end to end with a shot clock, chairs collide hard, and the athletes shoot on regulation 10-foot hoops. A world championship draws the sport's biggest names, and medal-round games in a full arena are the best introduction you can get.

Both venues are accessible, and TD Place is reachable on foot from the Glebe and by OC Transpo along Bank Street.
