Miguel de Armas is an internationally acclaimed Cuban pianist, composer, and arranger who has been captivating Canadian audiences since moving to Ottawa in 2012. With over 35 years of experience and more than 60 albums to his name, Miguel has dedicated his career to blending the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Cuban music with contemporary jazz, creating a rich and dynamic musical experience.
For this special performance at the National Arts Centre, Miguel invites audiences on a musical journey through the diverse and captivating world of Latin music. From the infectious beats of salsa and timba to the soulful melodies of bolero and Latin jazz, Miguel and his band will not only perform but also engage with the audience—sharing the stories, rhythms, and instruments that define Latin music.
Whether you are a longtime Latin music lover or discovering it for the first time, this interactive concert promises an unforgettable experience filled with energy, culture, and vibrant sound. Miguel’s mission is to not only entertain but to inspire a deeper appreciation for the diversity and richness of Latin music. Don’t miss this chance to move, learn, and connect with the universal language of rhythm!
Music on the Canal The concert takes place on the Rideau Canal beginning near the NAC, under the Rideau Street Bridge. The musician-packed boat will arrive at Lansdowne Park approximately 45 minutes later and then return back. The sets run approximately 90 minutes.
Tips and tricks for enjoying Music on the Canal We recommend you find a spot along the canal, not at the starting point at the NAC, where you will be able to hear the boat as it approaches and then continues down the canal. Pack a picnic, bring some folding chairs and let the music come to you!
If you want more than a glimpse, you can cycle along to keep up as the boat moves faster than walking pace.
