About
The Celtic Cross Ceremonies honour the memory of Irish immigrants who helped build the Rideau Canal in the 1820s and 1830s. Many Irish workers lost their lives during the canal's construction.
The Celtic Cross monument at Lock 1 serves as a memorial to these workers and their contributions to Canadian history.
