Wednesday, June 17, 2026 | 7:00 PM | National Military Cemetery, Beechwood Cemetery. Beechwood Cemetery, the National Cemetery of Canada, proudly invites you to the second annual Under the Maple Leaf – Respecting the Canadian Flag ceremony. This national initiative ensures the dignified retirement of tattered, faded, and unserviceable Canadian and provincial flags, paying tribute to the symbols that have represented our nation at home and abroad. A National Tradition in the Making Launched in 2025, this ceremony has quickly become a powerful expression of Canadian remembrance, unity, and pride. As stewards of Canada’s history and heritage, Beechwood honours these flags at their final stage, offering a respectful farewell in accordance with Canadian Heritage protocols and environmental best practices. Flags are cremated with care at our on-site facility, echoing the same dignity with which they once flew over homes, embassies, bases, and memorials across the country.
