Celebrating its 10th year and 9th exhibition, Creative Space is an ongoing program and part of a well-established partnership between the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre and OAG. Educators and participants engage with artmaking as a tool for wellness, expression, and connection in weekly in-person and online classes. The art in this exhibition was created in community – learning to work with the materials together and sharing successes and struggles through each stage of the process.
This year’s exhibition, Frame of Mind, considers how a frame can become an integral element of an artwork. Conventionally unobtrusive, frames protect and delineate an artwork while also signaling its importance. In this exhibition, artists investigate the role of a frame, re-thinking and expanding upon its limitations through unique experimentations with two- and three-dimensional artforms. Frame of Mind combines work from the fall and winter sessions of the program, applying acrylic painting and mixed media sculpture techniques.
Frame of Mind is on display on Levels 0 and 1
Curated by: Haley Menard
Installation: Stephanie Germano, Dan Austin, Rob Keefe
Translation and editing: Caro Stewart, Véronique Couillard
Mixed Media
Mixed media is a catch-all term for when an artist uses more than one artistic medium in an artwork. It’s a way of breaking boundaries between art forms and experimenting with materials in new ways.
