About Ottawa Connections

Ottawa Connections is the local twist on the popular NYT Connections format. Every puzzle gives you 16 tiles, and your job is to find the four hidden groups of four — each group connected by something Ottawa-specific. A row of neighbourhoods. A row of bridges. Three things named after the Rideau, plus one fake-out.

The four groups are colour-coded by difficulty: yellow green blue purple — yellow is usually the most obvious, purple the trickiest. You get four mistakes. Solve all four groups to win.

Each puzzle has its own URL — finished one and want a friend to try? Send the link. Progress is saved locally on your device.

Frequently asked

What is Ottawa Connections?
It's a free word-grouping puzzle, in the style of NYT Connections, but every category is tied to Ottawa-Gatineau — neighbourhoods, landmarks, government, festivals, transit, and more. Find four hidden groups of four words each.
How do I play?
Tap four tiles you think share a category, then press Submit. If they're a real group, that row locks in with its colour. If not, you've used a mistake. You get four mistakes total. Find all four groups to win.
What does “One away” mean?
You picked four tiles where exactly three belong to the same group. Swap one tile and try again — you’re close.
Is it free?
Yes. No account required. Plays in your browser.
How is this different from Capitle?
Capitle is a 5-letter word guess (one answer per puzzle). Connections is about grouping — you're given 16 tiles and have to figure out which four go together, four times.
